2010 – Akim Funk Buddha Hip Hop Kecak promo video

Using archival footage from Akim's travels in Bali, video I shot of him describing his art form, I created this promo video for performance artist Akim Funk Buddha's latest cultural fusion project: Hip Hop Kecak - blending hip hop culture with Balinese Kecak. Shot and Edited in the Lower East Side of New York City, sometime in 2009. He actually uploaded it to YouTube on August 9, 2010.

Using archival footage from Akim's travels in Bali, video I shot of him describing his art form, I edited this promo video for Akim Funk Buddha's latest cultural fusion project: Hip Hop Kecak - blending NYC hip hop culture with the vocalization of Kecak, a form of Balinese Hindu dance popularized in the 1930s. Shot and Edited in the Lower East Side of New York City, sometime in 2009. He actually uploaded it to YouTube on August 9, 2010.

Urban-legendary Hip Hop performer, dancer, and teacher Akim Ndlovu - know as Akim Funk Buddha...

"Akim Ndlovu, a remarkably agile dancer from Zimbabwe," ~ New York Times is one of five American artists to win a US / Japan Creative Artists' Program grant for a three-month residency / cultural exchange in Japan. The grant is awarded by the U.S. Japan Friendship Commission in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts.

Akim was selected twice to be a Hip Hop ambassador and awarded a competitive Hip Hop fellowship by the Next Level program,  an initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In 2018 he went to Azerbaijan and in 2022 he went to Ireland.

Akim is a multi-faceted performance artist with talents ranging from high-energy Classic Hip Hop rhymes, beat-boxing and Mongolian throat-singing, to body-balancing, martial arts, tap dance, and circus arts. Akim creates borderless performance art fusing sounds and movements. He is known for his holistic Approach to Hip Hop, drawing from a full spectrum of cultural traditions and artistic disciplines.
