NAGA RASTA: The Origins Of The Rastafari Featuring Raamayan Ananda and KA LA
Gernre: kirtronic – Where ancient devotional kirtan meets the pulse of modern electronic and hip hop. A divine fusion transcending space and time.
What most people dont KNOW is that the ROOTS of Rastafari come from both Africa AND India.. The dreadlocks, the ganja, and spiritual way of life all came when Indian’s were brought as slaves to Jamaica in the 1850’s. This confluence of cultures produced what we know today as RASTA, which is actually a SANKSRIT word that means PATH. Naga Babas, or Sadhu’s are ascetic yogi’s from India who renounce materiality for self-realization. Sadhus wear their hair in thick dreadlocks called jata. Sadhus engage in a wide variety of religious practices. Some practice asceticism and solitary meditation, while others prefer group praying, chanting or meditating, some smoke Ganja as a sacriment to still the bodily sensansation deepning their practice. They typically live a simple lifestyle, have very few or no possessions, survive by food and drinks from leftovers that they beg for or is donated by others. Our hope in CONNECTING these lineages is that some of the deeper spiritual truths connected to the NAGA BABA’s make their way through reggae music as a vehicle for collective awakening… that the rituals of GANJA can be brought back to their sacr3d form.
