We also talk about the internet, social media addiction as a distraction from sadhana and local youth’s recent preoccupation with violent video games.

I used to come up here when I wanted to disconnect from the internet. Early years I didn’t have network connection. Without the distraction of social media I was able to focus on my sadhana. Since the Covid19 Pandemic, the need for online school brought a stronger network connection in our village. After returning (post lockdown) in June 2021, it was the first time I saw so many teens with mobile phones. The network is stronger at Taptkund Mahadev Mandir than further up in the hills where most people live. Nearly everyday I see people coming to the mandir, not to pray, but to watch YouTube, check social media, or worse: play violent video games. It’s ironic to me.

We also talk about: simple living in rural Himalayas, care for the nature, keeping our environment clean, growing your own organic food, and local trekking destinations in the area.

I was super impressed to meet a local young woman, very professionally, running her own YouTube Channel: @Uttarakhandimomstudio. Her channel shares various aspects of her life in rural Kumaon.
